Summary: Let’s start over and do it right.
The first awakening was almost like a birth, in the sense that it was all starting over. In this dark, cold room, completely unfamiliar, Mohinder was born again.
“Hello Mohinder.”
He shivered under the thin blanket and mouthed the greeting clumsily back to himself. His throat was raw, overused and why does it hurt, but he asked, “Mohinder?” in a voice strange to his own ears.
“That’s your name.” the man smiled. It was a distant expression: one that started off comforting and ended like a mocking joke. He brushed the tips of his fingers, calloused, over Mohinder’s cheek. “You were in an accident; you’ve lost your memories.”
“Who…” Mohinder tried. His voice cracked.
“My name is Sylar.”
Sylar was still smiling. “You don’t remember, but you and I are very…close.”
Close echoed in Mohinder’s empty, fogged mind. He latched onto it. Sylar, Sylar, Sylar.
That man-Sylar, with a dimming smile, curled his fingers in Mohinder’s hair. “Sleep. I’ll take good care of you.”
Mohinder had no reason to believe otherwise.
